Event Details

In 1923, Sabella Nitti was on trial for the murder of her missing husband. There was no evidence, motive, or positive identification on the decayed corpse found in a suburban Chicago drainage ditch. But prosecutors wanted an easy win. The city had seen a rash of lady killers who were glamorous, guilty, and able to charm a jury into an acquittal.  In Sabella Nitti, prosecutors saw easy, ugly prey. She was an impoverished, recent immigrant who did not speak English nor fully understand the criminal justice system.  Emilie Le Beau LucchesiPhD, author of Ugly Prey: An Innocent Woman and the Death Sentence that Scandalized Jazz Age Chicago tells the riveting story of the case against Sabella Nitti and the exciting fight to save her life.  Please Register.
